Today my mom and I ate lunch out at a busy restaurant, and while she was up getting more food, the lady at the next table started talking to me about the selection of desert. I didn't really want to continue the conversation, but I immediately chastised myself.
When did I get so impatient with other people that I can't even make small talk with them? And it's not just me, it's everyone! Way back in the times of the caveman, people probably wandered around for weeks or months before they came upon another tribe, and when they did, it was probably cause for a big party. Now, we cram ourselves into a subway with dozens of people every morning, and we can't even make eye contact? Smiling at them makes you a weirdo , and you'd better not even TRY saying anything to them!
I think we should just all be a little more open to chatting with the people around us, even if we don't know them. I bet it would make our and their day a lot better.
